The Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme (CDEP) is supporting this year’s Hypo Awareness Week to help health and social care staff strengthen their knowledge of hypoglycaemia.

Running from September 14 to the 20, 2026, the initiative aims to improve the recognition, prevention and management of hypoglycaemia, providing accessible, evidence-based education for health and social care staff working in a range of settings across the UK.

During the awareness week, participants can choose from one of two free CDEP training modules, tailored to their role:

  • Hospital Hypos, designed for acute hospital ward staff
  • Hypos at Home, created for staff working in community settings, care homes and people’s own homes.

Each module can be completed in as little as 30 minutes and has been developed to increase competence, confidence and familiarity with current clinical guidance. Learners also receive a certificate of completion and a reflection form to support their continuing professional development.

Hypoglycaemia remains one of the most common acute diabetes-related complications and, if not recognised and managed quickly, can lead to serious consequences including falls, injury, hospital admission, loss of consciousness and even death.

Ensuring staff have the knowledge and confidence to respond appropriately is a key focus of Hypo Awareness Week.

The free training has been designed to fit around busy clinical schedules while providing practical, relevant learning that can be applied immediately in everyday practice. The initiative forms part of CDEP’s ongoing commitment to improving diabetes care and supporting staff with practical, high-quality learning resources that enhance clinical practice and improve standards of care as well as patient safety.

Staff wishing to take advantage of the free training can register during Hypo Awareness Week, from September 14 to 20, 2026, choosing the module most relevant to their clinical setting.
