Frimley Park Hospital

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust had found out about Hypo Awareness Week just before it began. They were very keen to try and do something for a week that is so important to many people. They put together display boards to inform staff and the public on the children’s ward and in the clinic area in children’s outpatients. They adapted the Diabetes UK hypo quiz for staff, patients and visiting public to try. Everyday they went to the children’s ward, paediatric A&E and children’s outpatients to promote and deliver updated training to all staff on hypos. They completed the quiz and receive a hypo sweet prize. They revised the location of the hypo box and flow chart; this was all well received by their staff that appreciated refreshing and the opportunity to re-learn. They use the children’s diabetes clinics to revise with patients their hypo symptoms, treatments and how they felt about hypos. They also used the quiz to revise with the children and their families, which provided some interesting statements.
