Hypo Awareness Week is an opportunity to educate the health care professionals, patients and also everybody in the community to be aware of the signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia. To people who have diabetes, having hypo is part of their lives. Hypoglycaemia can be very scary; being unaware of hypo/being unable to treat it can affect or changes your quality of life. Some people are unaware of the symptoms of hypoglycaemia; they lose the ability to sense that their blood glucose level is dropping which can lead to convulsion, unconsciousness and in some cases coma. The Medway Community healthcare diabetes team has taken this opportunity to be involved in this important event with pride to educate and empower the team, the community and other health care professionals to be aware, to spot the signs, learn the symptoms and treat them.
